DIED IN THE LINE OF DUTY FROM GUNSHOT

On Tuesday morning, Kunz had arrested a man said to be Sam Calanni who was caught unloading whiskey and packing cases in a stable on Russell Street and the motor vehicles would drive off at Old York Road and Venango Streets. Officer Kunz was calling for a patrol wagon when Calanni, 25 years old, of 1031 Russell Street wrestled free from Officer Kunz, drew a revolver and fired.  Officer Edward Kunz was shot twice in the stomach and was taken to Pennsylvania Hospital where he died. Kunz was thirty-one and lived with his wife and mother at 3749 N. Marshall street.  He had been on the force seven years.
