KILLED IN THE LINE OF DUTY BY GUNSHOT

Policeman who died from bullet wound caused by negro he tried to arrest.  Black was a member of the force more than twenty-five years and was appointed March 26, 1892. Thompson Black a policeman of the 20th and Federal Street station, died last night in the Polyclinic Hospital from the effects of the bullet.

His alleged assailant Charles Miller a negro made his escape.  The policeman attempted to arrest Miller on a complaint of Ida Cunningham, colored, 2210 Gerritt Street. Black was fifty years old and is survived by a widow and one child.
